Yenka Technology

Yenka Technology is a powerful, but easy-to-use, simulator for systems and control.

It lets you design circuits, with a vast library of digital and analog electronics, and convert them to PCBs for manufacture. You can program PIC or PICAXE chips, and model the circuit in full 3D, with mechanical inputs and outputs.


Yenka Technology has been designed for children as young as 10 to use - unlike most of our competitors, which are converted industrial simulators.


As a result, Yenka's interface is easy to learn, and the software simulates as you work - so you can see how your changes affect the circuit straight away.

And teachers and students can all use the full version of Yenka Technology at home.

What does Yenka cover?

Yenka Technology can be used right throughout the design process:

  • Electronic circuit simulation - design and simulate circuits using over 150 types of component, testing and refining your design as you work;
     

  • 3D PCB design - take the circuits you simulate, and convert them into 3D PCB simulations*, whose layouts can be exported for manufacture;
     

  • Microcontroller programming - write routines using simple flowcharts, and test them on-screen, before using them to program real PIC or PICAXE chips*;
     

  • Gears - experiment with a range of mechanical components, in full 3D, and control them via your electronic system.

 

Electronic circuit simulation

Yenka Electronics lets you design and simulate circuits using over 150 types of component, testing and refining your design as you work.

  • Professional electronic tools for schools - based on a new version of the Crocodile Clips simulation engine, Yenka Electronics makes electronic design straightforward - even for less experienced users.

     

  • Design circuits easily - choose components from the extensive library, draw wires with your mouse, and see the circuit spring to life.

    Click components to edit their properties, and graph changing voltages.

     

  • Analogue electronics range from simple power supplies and switches, through inputs, sensors and outputs, to semiconductors and op-amps.

       Many offer several real models for use in its sister product Yenka PCBs - for example, 10 types of NPN transistor are on offer.

  • Digital electronics are also on offer too, with logic gates and extensive sets of 4000 and 7400 series ICs.

​      Edit maximum component ratings, and other parameters, by simply clicking on them in your circuit.
 

  • Simplified circuit editing - drag a component onto a wire, and it will be automatically inserted; there's no need to delete old wires or draw new ones. Drop it on an existing component, and it'll replace that component.
     

  • Design PCBs with our PCB tools: convert your simulation automatically into a 3D PCB design, simulate it and export it for manufacture.
     

  • Include PIC and PICAXE chips in your circuits with our microcontroller tools: program the chips with straightforward flowcharts before exporting them to real hardware.
     

3D PCB design

 

Yenka Technology lets you take the electronic circuits you design and convert them automatically to PCB designs. You can simulate the PCB in 3D, add 3D cases, and export the layout for manufacture.

  • Design circuit boards in full 3D - drag a 3D PCBs into your design, and build your circuit using Yenka Electronics. Then convert it to a PCB layout, either manually or automatically.
     

  • Route tracks automatically - using Yenka's powerful tools, specifying key settings like track width and component spacing.
     

  • Place inputs and outputs where you want them, and Yenka will place the other components automatically. You can even edit the full PCB design manually, if you wish.
     

  • Powerful PCB editing tools are included: Yenka PCBs includes the real-PCB design software, based on a widely used industrial engine, which runs in the background. It gives you full manual control over the design, if you need it.
     

  • Add a 3D case for your finished PCB and use our 3D tools to place inputs and outputs on the case. Import cases that you've designed in CAD software, such as Google's free Sketchup.

  • Simulate your circuit board in 3D: interact with switches or controls in either the 2D schematic or the 3D real-world view; both views of your circuit are simulated concurrently.

    To help understand how your finished product will work, you can flip or rotate the board to any angle as the simulation runs.
     

  • Export your PCB for manufacture as a Gerber file, or to a variety of desktop milling machines.
     

  • Add mechanical outputs to your 3D circuit board simulation - including motors and solenoids.
     

  • Include PIC and PICAXE chips in your circuits with our microcontroller tools: program the chips with straightforward flowcharts before exporting them to real hardware.

 

Microcontroller programming

Yenka PICs lets you write routines using simple flowcharts, and test them on-screen, before using them to program real PIC or PICAXE chips.

Programming is easy

Snap flowchart commands together to program your chip and click a command to edit its properties - like input status and variable values.

To insert a new command, just drop it at the right place; it snaps in automatically, with no need to delete and redraw links.

Simulate the full circuit

Use Yenka Electronics with Yenka PICs to design the input and output circuits for your PIC or PICAXE. You can then simulate and test them with the chip.

Use Yenka PCBs to turn these circuits into PCB designs and 3D simulations that include your programmed PIC chips, and export them for manufacture.

Program real hardware

The Windows version of Yenka PICs programs the following real chips directly, provided you've got the right programming hardware:
PICAXEs 08, 08M, 14M, 18, 18A, 18M, 18X, 20M, 28, 28A, 28X, 28X1
PICs 16F627, 16F628, 16F84, 16F84A and 16F872.

 

Gears

 

Yenka Gears lets you experiment with a range of mechanical components, in full 3D.

Straightforward 3D design tools

Mechanical components are straightforward to use: they snap together automatically and can be moved and rotated in each of the 3 dimensions.

Gears can be linked directly to each other or using a chain drive of any length. Each gear lets you set its diameter precisely, and choose how many teeth it has, and how big they are.

To change the direction of rotation, worm and bevel gears and a rack and pinion are also available. You can connect a crank to the gears to turn them manually or add wheels of different masses and diameters.

 

Other Yenka products

Yenka Gears can be used on its own, but it also works seamlessly with other Yenka products.

In particular, if you've also got Yenka PCBs, you can create and simulate PCB designs which link to your gears and flywheels through motors, solenoids and generators, and export the PCB layout for manufacture.
